Hi Family!!
It's finally P-day! They are on Thursdays and I usually email around 10:00 well depending on if we have temple which we don't this week. There is so much to be said about this week that I don't even know where to start... the first day at the MTC was probably the most exiting but scariest days of my whole life!! We came into a room with three teachers that were all speaking Indonesian to us!! And if that wasn't scary enough, we had no idea where anything was!! We were completely new and I felt like a freshman on my first day of high school.
July 4th here was awesome!! We had a wonderful devotional about pioneers and then watched "17 Miracles"!! After all that, they told us to go outside and grab an ice cream bar and watch the fire works!!! That was my very first time thinking, "You know what? This is going to be okay, and I will make it!! Those people suffered so much for the Lord and I know that I can do the same!!"
I have taught three lessons in Indonesian!! And I can bear my testimony and say a prayer!! I know the gift of tongues is real even though it takes a lot of work and a lot of struggling!!!
My companion, Elder Martineau, is a pretty great guy!! Actually, I don't think I could ask for a better companion! He is the smartest guy I have ever met and he is the funniest in our district! But most importantly he is very sensitive to the Spirit and we are a really great pair!
Please everyone write me on DearElders.com and just tell me about your day! I get Dear Elders like the day that you send them and they brighten up any hard day that I might have! So please write Dear Elders! I promise I have responded to all of them! I guess you haven't received any of my snail mail yet!!
Other big news is that an Apostle came and spake on Tuesday at the devotional!! I got to sing for him in the big MTC choir!! Which one you might ask? Well, Neil L. Anderson of course!! it was great! He spoke on the unseen world and focused on the Holy Ghost! He was very adamant that you shall not teach without it!!
Now we are on a set schedule where we wake up, eat, class, eat, class, gym , eat, class... :)
The food here is great but by the time I leave on August 11th I feel like I will be very done with it!! Oh, and if you are wondering if Fast Sunday is the longest day of my life? YES! We don't eat breakfast or lunch and we are going to work all that time!!
Things that have made me smile: (thanks to my cousin Brittney for the idea)
1) anything is funny after being in the same room for 7 hours a day!! My awesome little district has had some of the greatest times after working hard! A couple night ago we were almost done for the day and one of the Elders figured out how to say "Ibu anda" (your mom). I know that we are missionaries but sometimes the other missionaries that speak a different language comes up to us and thinks it so funny to say stuff we don't know... so our response... "Ibu anda" :) We had a good laugh with that!
2) chocolate milk!! I think of Kayden every meal because I also get at least two glasses of chocolate milk!!
3) jokes!! A good joke is always good and some of the Elders in my disrict have some great ones!! Please send me jokes!! Really though.
4) My sweat shirt! I sleep right under the air cooler in our dorms and even though its nice after a good day in the field, at night it gets pretty cold!! And if you know me at alll you know I get cold!!
5) learning about life in Indonesia!! There are some really gross things like toilets and toilet paper isn't very common there so a... well I'll tell you about that later...
And all the people there are apparently so nice and just love Americans!! Apparently, if you say you like something like "oh nice bag" they would say "anda mau itu" which means "you want it!!" haha which causes a lot of awkward situations!
Overall, this week has been wonderful and I am loving it!! The first couple of days really tried my faith but know that I know The Lord will help and guide me and He is with me!!
I love you!!
Love Elder Troff
Hurrah for Israel for Israel hurrah!!!!
